Domaine Creisses, Les Creisses 2020, Languedoc
Made in very limited quantities, Les Creisses is a Languedoc treasure. There is so much value to be had in Languedoc, especially with red blends.
Winemaker Philippe Chesnelong’s success keeps growing vintage after vintage, his wines are adored by sommeliers all over France
Domaine des Creisses is located in Valros, in the IGP Pays de l'Hérault in Languedoc. The family property was created in the 19th century and was taken over by Philippe in 1998. Louis Mitjaville, his cousin, brings his expertise for winemaking and ageing.
The vineyard is under sustainable protection and therefore treated as little as possible, but as much as necessary. It has just been certified High Environmental Value (HVE). The estate has two distinct terroirs: Les Creisses and Les Brunes. Les Creisses consists of an 11-hectare stony clay-limestone plateau with deep soil as well as a development of 20 hectares on hillsides of Villafranchian gravel interspersed with woods.
Les Creisses is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (27%), Syrah (25%), Grenache (22%), Mourvèdre (10%), Carignan (8%) and Cinsault (8%). The harvest is de-stemmed, followed by a long maceration of up to 25 days. The wine is aged for 12 to 18 months.
The wine is deep red colour, with aromas of red and black fruits, spicy and a hint of leather. What we love about this wine is its freshness with its garrigue aroma and fruity fullness -the tannins are very fine and the structure is superb.
