Domaine Sigaut

Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy

ESTATE

Based in Chambolle-Musigny, the estate has been recently getting more and more recognition among Burdungy lovers. The couple Hervé and Anne took over in 1990 from Hervé’s father, Maurice Sigaut, and rapidly changed a lot of things in both the vineyards and the cellar.

WINEMAKING

The 9.3 ha domaine counts some of the greatest terroirs of Chambolle, with the 1ers crus, Les Fuees, Les Sentiers and Les Noirots, all of them ploughed by horse. Although the estate is not officially certified as organic or Biodynamic, Herve refers to the lunar Calendar for the most crucial winemaking operations. The yields are naturally kept low (30hl/ha) as most of the vines are very old. Once in the cellar, the grapes are fully destemmed. the policy here is very little intervention, the wines are racked only once and the new wood is limited to 40% new oak.

The resulting wines are genuine expressions of the Chambolle terroir, very silky and pure fruit flavours. As the extraction performed is very gentle, the wines are naturally concentrated because of the combination of low yields and old vines.

Although the estate doesn’t count any Grand Crus, the Sigaut couple has  excellent “super” villages and premiers crus, such as the Bonnes-Mares neighbouring parcels, “Les Fuées” and “Les Sentiers”.
