Chablis, Burgundy, France
Jean-Claude Bessin is a true personality in Chablis, making some of the most highly regarded, stylish and consistent wines in the region. A trained architect, Jean-Claude decided to return to his father in laws’ vineyards "Domaine Tremblay" to debut his career witch led to the production of his first vintage in 1992.
The Domaine’s total holdings amount to 12 hectares. Fourchaume "La Piece au Comte" is a very special cuvee which is located at the heart of Fourchaume and have the oldest vines (86 year old vines)in his family.
In recent years, the Domaine has gravitated towards Biodynamical agriculture. The majority of the harvest is done by hand, with natural yeasts being used during the fermentation process. The wines spend an extended amount of time on lees, with the ‘Crus” being bottled after 15 to 18 months ageing. Regarding the more prestigious wines, they undergo additional barrel fermentation.
This is an estate which provide good value and quality, prices and demand will inevitably increase as obviously he deserves to get more.
"We had absolutely outstanding fruit quality and given the really hot growing conditions, there is unusually good freshness and energy to the wines, indeed even very good terroir transparency as well.” - Jean-Claude BESSIN, Burghound (76)
